Acne skin can be an inconvenience and it can lower our self-esteem, but it doesn’t have to be that way. With few changes in your skincare routine, you can have clear skin too. Your skin care doesn’t have to be complex and time-consuming to be effective. The key is in light face products and consistency. Here are a few ways that can help you improve the state of your skin:
Start with washing your face daily and don’t miss this most important step. Gently use your fingertips or a soft washcloth and thoroughly clean your face. Make sure you are using the cleanser that is right for your skin type. Don’t rub your skin in an aggressive way because this will create irritation. It is especially important to always completely remove your makeup before you go to sleep. If you leave powder on your face, you will clog your pores and cause inflammation that will make your skin worse.
When your skin is cleaned, apply toner. This can help you with removing excess oil, dirt residue, and makeup leftovers. However, this step is optional and if you want a minimalistic skincare routine, you can skip this part.
When your skin is dried, now is the time to apply your daily face cream or you can use a special medication cream that your dermatologist prescribed. Gently apply the cream to your face. Be careful though, acne medication can sometimes make your skin dry. To reduce that, apply your moisturizer two or three times a day. Choose a moisturizer that is light. It needs to be non-comedogenic and free of oil. Try different brands to see which works best for you.
If your moisturizer doesn’t contain SPF, then it would be a good idea to buy sunscreen and apply that too for extra protection of your skin against the sun. Again, choose the one that will not clog your pores and apply only a little bit of cream on your face.
Vitamin C has anti-inflammatory properties and it will help you reduce the redness that comes with acne. It also helps improve the appearance of acne scars and reduce hyperpigmentation.
Exfoliation is an important step in any facial, but it is especially good for acne skin. It will help remove dead skin cells and leave your skin smooth and soft.
Sulfur masks are often used during acne treatment facials. For oily skin types, choose a clay mask instead. When you take the mask off, you will instantly feel how soft your face is. You will also feel fresh and rejuvenated.
Last, but not less important is to avoid sugar, fast food, greasy food, milk, and chocolate. You need to drink a lot of water to hydrate your skin. Try to remove stress from your life because stress makes things worse with your acne. Don’t forget to have enough sleep. Your skin needs rest.
If you need extra help, talk to your dermatologist to find the best solution and the most effective treatment for you.
