The fashion world is always abuzz with the latest trends. Every season, designers debut their newest creations, and we all scramble to see what will be hot next. This season’s Fashion Week was marked by classic sportswear, unabashed glamour, and sheer reveals. For their spring 2023 collections, some designers took inspiration from the past while others looked to current trends, giving customers a wide range of fashionable choices. Use the following styles as inspiration to help you figure out how to wear the biggest spring and summer fashion trends.
“Fashion should be a form of escapism and not a form of imprisonment.”
— Says Alexander McQueen
Sheer Joy
This season, show some skin with long-sleeved blouses and bras in sheer fabrics straight from the catwalks of New York and London. The sheer detailing used by designers such as Laquan Smith and Nensi Dojaka, among others, communicated a sense of urgency in a sort of body-positive way. This season’s take on the trend is a bit more light-hearted than past seasons’ incarnations. To achieve the look, pair a sheer top with high-waisted trousers or a pencil skirt. If you want to go for a more daring look, try layering a sheer blouse over a bralette.
Bra Tops
There was no ignoring the number of bra tops seen on models at shows like Priscavera and Tom Ford – they were everywhere! The underwear gave the exposed-lingerie aesthetic a much-needed boost, modernizing it and making it more versatile. Designers demonstrated the versatility of colored turtlenecks by layering them under sharp blazers or pairing them with matching skirts and culottes with a variety of looks, from sports-inspired ensembles to eveningwear. To try the trend, look for a bra top in a color or print that speaks to you and wear it with high-waisted trousers or a skirt. You can also layer it under a blazer for a more polished take on the style.
Fringe For Spring
Though it may not sound cutting-edge, the fringe will be big for spring 2023–but with a mix of festive and practical iterations, we haven’t seen before. Jason Wu’s lavender maxi dress was exceedingly chic due to its glistening fringed bodice. At the Feb show in London, a green skirt covered in sequins and fringe looked fun and daring when worn with a matching top and leather jacket. Fringe is still trending for spring, adding flair to all our skirts and dresses. This season, look for fringe in a variety of colors and prints. You can also find it in bags, shoes, and even jewelry.
Streamlined Sportswear
Sports clothing may be a culturally creative concept that is revisited and reinterpreted season after season, yet fashion designers never grow weary of new ways to make it seem current. This season, a more cohesive look has been seen strutting down the catwalks, from Victor Glemaud’s barely-there strapless dresses to Monse’s slouchy neutral button-downs. The styling was sporty, and the silhouettes were elegant. To try the trend, look for pieces that are both comfortable and stylish, like a pair of joggers or a hoodie dress. You can also layer different sporty pieces to create a more polished look.
Experimental Denim
Because designers keep creating new forms for denim on the runway, we continue to see it in unusual shapes. This season, we saw it in everything from deconstructed jackets to patchwork dresses. At the Tom Ford show, models wore denim in a variety of colors, including yellow, green, and purple. To try the trend, look for denim pieces that are outside of the box, like a pair of overalls or a denim skirt. You can also look for denim in unexpected colors, like red or pink.
Cocktail Dresses
For spring 2023, cocktail dresses are making a grand comeback. These designer strapless ball gowns from 16Arlington and Khaite will surely make heads turn. Roberto Cavalli presented an embroidered interpretation of a classic cocktail dress in Milan, with a strapless design covered in green and brown motifs that peeped out from the top. There are several alternatives to consider. You can find a classic LBD or go for something with more personality, like a printed dress. You can also experiment with different silhouettes, like a fit-and-flare dress or an A-line dress.
These are just a few of the trends we’ll be seeing for spring 2023. Which ones will you be trying? Let us know in the comments!
